FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Ninety-Nines joins Hilary Swank for AMELIA Press Conference

Friday, October 16, 2009, Ninety-Nines President Susan Larson will join actress Hilary Swank, director Mira Nair, and Fox Searchlight Pictures at a press conference to promote AMELIA, a full-length feature film about Amelia Earhart.   Earhart was the first president of The Ninety-Nines, an international organization of women pilots.

Ninety-Nines from across the United States and from as far away as Germany will be attending the event at Essex County Airport in Caldwell, NJ.  Also participating will be authors Susan Butler and Elgen Long whose books on Earhart provided biographical and background materials for the film. The press conference will begin with the arrival of the classic Lockheed Electra used in the film.

Swank and Nair will present The Ninety-Nines with props, costumes and mementos from the film to be displayed in a commemorative exhibition at the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum in Earhart’s home town of Atchison, KS.  The exhibition will run Friday through Sunday, October 23-25, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  As part of the exhibit, the museum will celebrate “Earhart Education Week,” in which families are encouraged to learn more about the legendary aviatrix and the making of the film

Larson will also present gifts from The Ninety-Nines to Swank and Nair.

The Ninety-Nines, headquartered in Oklahoma City, OK, is a nonprofit organization of women pilots that promotes aerospace education and training, provides aviation scholarships and preserves the unique history of women in aviation through the 99s Museum of Women Pilots and the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum.
