Racing in the Skies

RACING IN THE SKIES, A Pilgrimage to the Past by Pauline L. Mallary

An active pilot for 47 years, Pauline Mallary began her flying life as a flight instructor and charter pilot. Introduced to air racing in 1958, here is her account of 40 years and 102 air races throughout the United States, Canada, the Bahamas, Mexico, Central America and Nicaragua.

She won 10 races, including the 1977 All Women's International Air Race (Angel Derby) and in nearly all others, she was among the top ten.

Pauline Mallary is a charter member of The Ninety-Nines North Georgia Chapter. She has raced with, and against, many 99s. She has flown many more hours than her logged 4,700 indicates; her husband, retired airline Captain L. Peter Mallary and her frequent racing companion, intends to correct this.

She sets 3 more goals: to get her gold wings for 50 years of flying, to win the Air Race Classic and to become a United Flying Octogenarian (holding a current medical certificate and soloing an airplane at 80th years of age).
