LYRICAL AVIATORS,
Traveling America's Airways in a Small Plane by Sandra McClinton LYRICAL AVIATORS is a travelogue about the adventures of flying to exotic places in a jet-setting Cessna. Sandra, a former sailplane pilot, and her husband Chuck, who is instrument rated, fly over 300,000 miles in their Cessna Cutlass. Sandra was in the Hampton Roads Chapter of The 99s, secretary of the Williamsburg Chapter of the Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society and a member of the Poetry Society of Virginia. Soar with the couple as they: fly along the corridors of the Grand Canyon, circle the volcanic crater of Mt. St. Helens, experience bush pilot flying in the passes of Alaska, traverse the Bermuda Triangle traveling to the Bahamas and island hop over the beautiful turquoise waters of the Caribbean. Aviation history is interwoven
with tales of pioneer and celebrity pilots with an emphasis on
women in aviation. "..Sandra McClinton uses delightful imagery
and powerful storytelling to celebrate aviation," says Patty
Wagstaff, three-time U.S. National Aerobatic Champion. Col. Charles
McGee, a spokesman for the Tuskegee Airman, says, "...skillfully
highlights aviation history... Chuck Yeager breaks the sound
barrier over the Mojave Desert and the Tuskegee Airmen break
racial barriers over the skies of Europe and change attitudes
in America." Burt Rutan, renowned aircraft designer and
inventor says that "McClinton relates little known facts
about pioneer pilots and inventors."
