The Happy Commuter
THE HAPPY COMMUTER - Autobiographical Sketches By Louise Sacchi

Louise Sacchi opens with her first flight across the Atlantic in 1962 as Marion Hart's copilot-navigator. The trials and tribulations of dealing with the weather at Newfoundland and the north Atlantic, dealing with the various flight agencies, are told lightly but thoroughly, We are there.

The following year, Louise flew a twin-engine Apache to Europe, and the flights become numerous, when she retired at age 66, she had flown the Atlantic and the Pacific a total of 340 times in single and twin-engine aircraft. She describes vividly the joys, the problems, the fun of flying the oceans. Forty years and 20,000 hours since she first stepped into a Piper Cub for her first lesson. When she writes of that moment, each of us who flew the tandem trainer will be instantly transported back to that time.

Louise was a member of The 99s Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter until her death in 1997. When she entered an air race from London to Victoria, B.C., she found there was no New York to London speed record. She decided to set one. Her 99s Chapter loved the idea and paid the $250 fee to the National Aeronautics Association, they provided timers. Louise not only set the record, it stands today.
